Warm to touch Tactile Handrails
J & A Stevenson manufacture warm to touch handrails with a tactile surface embedded into it.
Ribbed section is to indicate to the visually impaired how many steps they have to go up or down in this instance their 4 ribs that indicate their are 4 steps this would be shown at the top and bottom of the handrail.
The tactile section to the handrail starts within the 300mm extension to the handrail before the top or bottom of the risers. In consideration that most common public stairs are made up of a lot less than 12 risers before a platform comes into operation you can simply start with the tactile surface again at the begining of you next flight of stairs in principle the same as a tactile warning to the floor that should be provided to the top and bottom of every staircase.
The tactile strip also gives an exceptional grip to the handrail.
