SureGRiP Platforms & Ramps

The SureGRiP range of ramps and platforms have been specifically designed for use in conjunction with our SureGRiPNon-Slip flooring, to comply with Approved document M - Access to and use of Buildings (2004 edition).

SureGRiP standard platform sections can be assembled in various configurations to provide an access system, which is permanent and robust, but can be easily dismantled for relocation.

SureGRiP Technical Specification

All Steelwork is designed generally to BS7818

SureGRiP Standard platform sections are 2440 horizontal length x 1220wide. Ramp sections are set at 1 in 15 gradient to give a lift of 160mm. 2 ramp sections together thus measure 4880 long and comply with the
regulations for being less than 5 metres before a rest platform.

SureGRiP Standard steps are designed for 160mm rise and 290mm going, and are fitted with a yellow Non-Slip nosing.

Handrail Balusters are manufactured from 40mm x 40mm RHS with 22mm diameter CHS infill at 100mm centres. There is also a 100mm deep curb and a 42mm diameter Warm to the touch Handrail which extends 300mm beyond the extent of any ramp or steps.

SureGRiP Design and Fabrication

The SureGRiP system is carried on a series of stools, comprising 50mm x 50mm RHS posts with 100mm x 50mm RSC cross bracings. These stools are graded as appropriate for ramps etc. and are equipped with adjustable feet to facilitate levelling.

The main framework of both ramps and platforms is 150mm x 75mm RSA, giving a 100 mm curb onto which the balusters are welded, and the stools are bolted to the underside. The SureGRiP Non-Slip panels on
their carriers are then laid into the framework and bolted into position.

Side Stringers for the access steps are fabricated from 300mm x 10mm flat plate, with 40mm x 40mm bearers onto which the SureGRiP treads are bolted. On access steps wider than 1220mm an additional centre support is fitted.

SureGRiP panels incorporate tactile surfaces where appropriate at the head of access steps, providing a ribbed surface, especially as an aid to the visually impaired.

Where a rise of more than 320mm is required, a 1500 mm long rest platform is incorporated or a return platform which allows the ramp direction to be reversed. Return platforms are 2600mm x 1220mm min. to allow for the required clearance between handrails.

Unless otherwise specified, top access platforms are 2440mm x 2440mm, to allow for door opening without impeding access to the 1220 mm wide ramp.
